Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon Updates (In Progress): October 2016

deweys-24-hour-readathon

Hello, all! As some of you may know, I’m doing Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon today! I’m so excited. It’s my second readathon, but my first with a blog, so it’ll be fun! I plan on giving myself a break from attempting to actually log 24 hours of reading, but I am hoping to log a lot. I really enjoy the social media aspect, though, so I have a feeling that I’ll do a fair amount of engaging that way as well. Check here for my updates every few hours! I’ll also updating Twitter (@reviewsandRaTs) & Litsy (@simplerevelry), and maybe some on Goodreads (simplerevelry). Updates are organized with the most recent first. Hope to hear from some of you!!

Hour 20: 2:00 a.m.

I did finally take a 45 minute nap from about 11:30 to 12:45. I’ve slowed down since then. Staying awake has been a bit of a struggle, but I’m determined to at least make it to hour 21 or 22 (I made it to 21 in April).

New Mini Challenges

  • Readathon Recommendation Engine, sponsored by Entomology of a Bookworm. For the challenge, you had to leave a favorite book from the readathon so far & recommend a book to someone based on their favorite. My favorite so far has been The Rose and the Dagger by Renee Ahdieh. I recommended The Statistical Probability of You and Me by Jennifer Smith to someone who liked Anna and the French Kiss.
  • Rainbow Tower, sponsored by The Book Corner. The challenge was to make a ROYGBIV rainbow out of books. Here’s my picture!rainbow-tower

Hour 16: 10:30 p.m. CST

I keep talking about napping, but I’ve found it impossible to do so. So I keep reading. Hope readathon is going well for all of you out there too!

New Mini Challenges

  • Fit Reader challenge, sponsored by the Geeky Blogger’s Book Blog. You had to move around for 5 minutes. I got up, walked around, and did some yoga/stretching. It was refreshing!
  • Video Game a Book challenge, sponsored by Game & Read. The challenge was to pick a book to gamify. I responded on Twitter. I chose Dark Matter by Blake Crouch because choices would really matter, and my favorite video games are the ones where my choices shape the world.
  • Frightful Reads challenge, sponsored by The Reading Date. I left a photo of Listen to Me by Hannah Pittard because I think it’s a frightful read?? My photo’s on Twitter. It also showcases my mismatched socks. I was cold…and no time to find matching socks on Readathon day!

Hour 12: 6:00 p.m. CST

I’m almost done with book #4 and I’m contemplating a quick nap as soon as I finish Shadow & Bone so I can hopefully make it all the way through this time!

Currently Reading: Shadow & Bone by Leigh Bardugo

Currently Listening to: Yes Chef by Marcus Samuelsson

Pages Read: 1,053

Hours Read: 7 hours and 32 minutes

New Mini Challenges

  • Hour 9: Book Cast, sponsored by The Reader’s Room. Here’s how I cast my current read: “I’m reading Shadow & Bone by Leigh Bardugo. For Alina, I’d cast Maisie Williams because she seems like she has a good look for the part, and could do the awkward spunkiness of Alina well. For the Darkling, I would cast Jonas Armstrong. He seems like he could alternately play roguish and endearing, as well as villain. Finally, for Mal, I would cast Chris Pratt. He’s got the look, though should probably be younger, but he also has the easygoing vibe Mal gives off at first.”
  • Hour 11: I planned my very own bookish party here. Sponsored by Happy Writer.

Hour 8: 2:04 p.m. CST

I just finished my second book a little in to hour 8 & thought I’d take a quick social media break! I just finished The Rose & the Dagger and I think I may have loved it even more than The Wrath and the Dawn. And I’ve apparently spent approximately 2-ish hours doing social media (?) since that’s what’s unaccounted for in my times below. I’m going to try and do better, though my eyes are getting tired.

  • Hour 7: Bookish Memories hosted by Kate @ Midnight Book Girl. I posted on Twitter here about mine, which was listening to my mom read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. I think that’s why I like fantasy!
  • Hour 8: Literary World Tour, hosted by Ampersand Read. I’m finding I use Twitter for the challenges a lot, just because it’s so easy! I posted my response here.

Hour 5: 11: 14 a.m CST

I had to take a bathroom break, so that led to a  quick social media break too! I did my Spine Poetry for the Litsy challenge (check mine out @simplerevelry on Litsy). Still on book #2.

  • Hour 3: Bookish Other Half from Silly Little Ravenclaw on YouTube. Here’s the comment I left: “My bookish other half is probably Diana Bishop from the All Souls Trilogy. We’re both fascinated by history & literature, and dig vampires (me on TV & in books, her as a hot husband). :)”

Hour 0/1: Opening Meme (7:40 a.m. CST)

Opening Meme:

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?

I am reading from Nashville, TN!

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?

I think I’m most looking forward to An Ember in Ashes, because it’s been on my TBR for so long. I hope I get to it!!

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?

I have a bag of Chex Mix I’ve been saving…but I also picked up a Halo Top ice cream flavor I’ve never tried! (Cookies & Cream)

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!

I’m a teacher. This is my second 24 hour readathon, and I’ve started a blog since the one in April.

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?

I participated in April. So…one thing I’ll do different today is realize that naps are okay, especially if I want to make it the whole 24 hours to the finish. I’m also just going to enjoy reading, and not worry so much about my stats.

Currently Reading: Flora & Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures by Kate DiCamillo (Illustrated pick for Fall Bookish Bingo)

Currently Listening to: Yes, Chef by Marcus Samuelsson

  1. Looks like you’re having a great Readathon! I love Nashville – lucky you. Yes, Chef is on my bookshelf and I considered it for the RAT, but it didn’t make the final cut. Hope you are enjoying it. Good luck on the rest of the RAT.
