Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon October 2018

Dewey's

It’s that time again for Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon!!! I’m so happy to be here & participating! I have a bit of a cold, so we will see how long I make it without a nap, but it’ll still be really fun! Check here for updates, challenges, etc. I’m also participating in Dewey’s Bingo & I’ll be posting updates for that along with my challenges!

Hour 0/1 (I’m always confused by the numbering)

Currently Reading: finishing up the last 20% of Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry

Currently Listening: The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood (started pre-readathon)

Total Time Read & Listened: We just started…but 21 minutes.

Total Pages Read: None yet! I’m listening to an audiobook while I eat breakfast.

Books Finished:

Challenges: Opening Survey!

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? I’m reading from St. Louis, MO! First Dewey’s since I moved!
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? I’m really looking forward to reading some romance. Probably The Kiss Quotient or When Katie Met Cassidy.
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? I have 3 kinds of goat cheese & crackers that I’m pretty stoked about.
4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I’m a teacher & just started a new job…so I’m looking for a day off to read!
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?  Usually, I worry a lot if I have to take a nap or something and how that impacts my reading time, but I’m going to try not to care today!!

Mid-Event Survey:
1. What are you reading right now? I’m reading Crazy Rich Asians and about to start a short story or 2 in Ted Chiang’s Stories of Your Life and Others.
2. How many books have you read so far? I’ve read/listened to & completed 3 books, but two of them were started before today.
3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon? I’m hoping I finally start a romance…and now I just remembered I have The Governess Game, so I may be taking a break from Crazy Rich Asians to read that…
4. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? Not a lot. I had a visit from my mom but it was short.
5. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far? My eyes seem to be getting tired a lot faster this go-round than usual.

I am shifting to the bed I think. It’s almost 2 a.m. here and my couch just doesn’t feel as comfy. This is the part of the readathon when I remember I really want/need to invest in one of those comfy bedrest pillows that would prop me up….

  1. Wow! Great job sticking out 19 hours, Sarah! I am exhausted just thinking about this. I’ve never participated in Dewey’s because I am someone who NEEDS a lot of sleep. It’s so important to me. I’m glad you made so much progress– what kept you going for so long?
