Book Traveling Thursdays is a weekly event hosted by Lauren @ Comma Hangover. It’s hosted through a Goodreads group. Each week, participants select one book that fits the theme for the week. You then post the original cover image, images of all the covers from your country, and then favorites/least favorites of all covers, including international editions. This week’s theme is an author that is new to you this year. So, for this week, I’ve chosen Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor…since I just read it last month. It’s a really good novel, outside of my usual genre, that follows Karou, a girl raised by unusual monsters who’s being chased by another type of creature. It’s a really great paranormal read.
Original Cover/US Cover
This is the original cover of the US edition and the only cover that’s been released in the US thus far. A lot of international edition covers are plays on this as well.
I really like the beauty and the colors on the Chinese cover. It lends an eeriness that the book itself had at times. I really love the colors on the Serbian cover. The UK editions are just stunning to me (my constant struggle is always wanting UK covers more than US covers). The feathers on the first one are just beautiful and I love the colors and images on the second as well. Finally, I just have a soft spot for the US cover because it’s visually beautiful in person, even though I’m usually not a fan of people on book covers.
Least Favorite Covers
The first cover is the Czech cover, and I just kind of hate it. I don’t like real people on book covers, and I don’t get the lace–and then the bottom half is just boring. The next two covers are mainly there because I don’t like real people on book covers as a general rule. The Slovak version gives me the wrong impression of the book. It makes me think it’s a straight up romance novel, when I didn’t really feel like that was the case. Finally, I really wanted to like the last cover a lot and it still has a sport in my heart, but it just seems so boring compared to some of my favored covers.
Which covers do you love or love to hate? Let me know in the comments!
