he-basics-of

The Sunday Post is a weekly event hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a way to wrap up your week, share news/book hauls, and consolidate links to your posts & other posts you’ve liked throughout the week. This week, I’m looking forward to DragonCon. It starts on Friday and I will leave for it on Friday after school. Yay for lots of fun actors and fandom things–including Zachary Levi (Chuck) and Matt Smith (Doctor Who).

Weekly Reading Updates

Books Finished This Week

Bout of Books was this week! I didn’t get too many things read–but I did get a lot of audio time with the second Harry Potter (ugh, Gilderoy Lockhart!) and I’ll likely also finish The Fellowship of the Ring today, hopefully starting The Two Towers tomorrow! Both of these books were excellent and fulfilled some reading challenges for me!

Reading Challenges

  • Read Harder 2017
    • Read a book by an immigrant or with a central immigration narrative: How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents by Julia Alvarez
  • Litsy Reading Challenge
    • About immigration: How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents by Julia Alvarez
    • 2016 Award Winner: The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead
  • Both books also counted for The Reading Quest. My current EXP is 70 (Level 2!) and my current HP is 110! I’ve finished 3 of the Knight tasks.

Currently Actively Reading

Still picking at Chicks Dig Time Lords when I’m in the mood. As mentioned above, Fellowship should be done today. I’m listening to the Jim Dale audio of Harry Potter (got about an hour or so left) and I’m planning on starting Now I Rise today, too!

Weekly Blog Updates

This week was super busy at work. I’m hoping to make up for it this week!

  1. Oh man, I LOVE listening to Jim Dale read Harry Potter! Are you re-reading the whole series?

Wow! How do you keep track of all those new releases? I can barely recall 1 or 2 coming out this year, let alone a list specific to the week! I’m super impressed.

    1. I am re-reading the whole series via audio, as I can get them from the library. They’re so good!! Also, my new release secret is that I’m a Book Riot fan and I ended up purchasing a Book Riot Insiders subscription and getting access to their New Release Index, which is amazing for knowing what’s coming up!

      1. I love having the New Release Index, as bad as it is for my TBR. It’s also cool to get some Insider knowledge from Book Riot folks and to have access to the Read Harder podcast & a deal in the store every month so. For $50 a year, it’s not too bad. They also do a mailbag giveaway exclusively for Insiders every month. That being said–I really think I’d prefer to have the next level up (which was full by the time I got around to joining), so I have my fingers crossed that spots open up eventually :). I use it pretty frequently, though.

      2. Oooh– have you ever won the mailbag giveaway? That’s super fun. It sounds like you get a lot out of this subscription, and I’m glad! The Epic level sounds really interesting, too. How does the monthly mailbag different between the Novel and Epic levels? I’m unclear from their website…

I hope that you get to join Epic this year! It sounds like you’d really use it.

Have you ever considered writing a post about your subscription? This is the first time I’ve talked to someone who has it, and I bet people would be interested to see what value you get out of this subscription– plus, I’m sure Book riot would love the publicity. 😉
