I LOVE the topic for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly event sponsored by the wonderful group of bloggers at The Broke and the Bookish. This week the challenge was to name at least 10 books you would buy if given a fully loaded gift card to do so. For me, this is all about editions of certain books, and complete series, with at least 1 purchase I’m currently coveting (see #1) but can’t quite bring myself to purchase yet. Without further ado, here are my Top 10 Dream Purchases.
1. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J. K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, & John Tiffany
Of course, this tops my list of current new releases I can’t quite find the money to get yet. I can’t wait to read what’s become of the whole Harry Potter gang and their children in the 20 year gap between this and the last Harry Potter book. It would be the first thing I’d add to my basket. 2. The Princess Bride: An Illustrated Edition of S. Morgenstern’s Classic Tale of True Love and High Adventure by William Goldman & Michael Manomivibul
The movie version of this book is one of my very first everlasting loves, and I didn’t particularly love the book. However, this edition looks so pretty. It’s a hardcover and includes beautiful illustrations along with the wonderful, beloved text. Someday, I will own this. Photo courtesy of Goodreads.
3. The Complete Set of Classics from Penguin’s Drop Caps Series
I just found these beautiful hardcover editions online from Penguin. The series includes 26 works of classic literature, one for each letter of the alphabet. The covers of each book are covered in an artistic design featuring the first letter of the author’s last name. Pictured is the first book in the set: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Such a fun take on classic hardcovers! Check them out here. Photo courtesy of Penguin.
4. The Complete Set of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel Season Comics by Various Authors (including Joss Whedon)
I was an avid Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel fan all through high school, and still have all of the seasons on DVD of both shows. I have not, however, ever gotten around to reading the comics which continue the storylines started on each show. I figure the best way to do so would be to just buy them all and binge read them some weekend, pretending it was kind of like binge-watching on Netflix. Pictured is the cover of Buffy season 8, volume 1. Photo courtesy of Goodreads.
5. All of the Barnes & Noble Collectible Editions I Could Get! (from Barnes & Noble)
I see these beautiful editions of both old and modern classics every time I go to Barnes & Noble and silently covet them, but can never quite bring myself to get them. I’ve featured some of my favorite covers above, including The Wrinkle in Time trilogy, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Other Stories, and To Kill a Mockingbird. 6. Les Miserables by Victor Hugo (Penguin Classics edition)
This book is one of my all time favorite classics, and I really love the red and black design on this edition. I would add it to my collection in a heartbeat! Photo courtesy of Amazon.
7. A box set of beautiful books from The Puffin in Bloom collection, including Little Women, Anne of Green Gables, A Little Princess, and Heidi
These books are pretty flowery, which made me unsure I liked them, but after clicking through the photos on the website, I just adored the covers. Also, these books were all favorites of mine growing up at some point or another. Beautiful nostalgia. Photo courtesy of Rifle Paper Co.
8. The Illustrated Folio Society Edition of Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, illustrated by Santiago Caruso
Jane Eyre was one of my first encounters with the Bronte sisters, and remains one of my favorites. I would love to check out this edition and see how the illustrations enhance the story. Check it out here. Photo courtesy of The Folio Society.
9. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone: The Illustrated Edition by J. K. Rowling, illustrated by Jim Kay
The cover of this book is so pretty! I really want to get it and re-read and savor all the new illustrations. It would definitely be one of the things I would buy with my obviously very large gift card! Image courtesy of Goodreads.
10. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Classics Reimagined version)
From Barnes & Noble:
The Classics Reimagined series is a library of stunning collector’s editions of classic novels illustrated by contemporary artists from around the world. Each artist offers his or her own unique, visual interpretation of the most well-loved, widely read, and avidly collected literature from renowned authors.
I loved all the covers I saw from this series, but a lot of the other books have had other editions mentioned on here. I LOVE this beautiful Sherlock Holmes cover, as I love the stories I’ve read, and the purple really catches my eye. I would love to add this to my collectibles. Image courtesy of Barnes & Noble.
So, in a nutshell, given a very large Visa gift card I could spend anywhere, I’d stock up on illustrated versions of favorites, and lots of books with pretty covers, along with some comics. What would you spend your gift card on? Anything on my list catch your eye? Let me know in the comments!
That edition of Jane Eyre looks amazing. That’s one of my favorite books so makes me want to snag that as well since my copies are all dog-eared from college days. Harry Potter made my must-buy list too 🙂

HP8 made my list too. I’ve seen so many people list these books with gorgeous covers but they’re books I already own. I can’t bring myself to buy duplicates, even if the cover is gorgeous. Great list this week!

I get not buying duplicates. If I were to start buying books with gorgeous copies, I would probably then trade or re-sell my used copies. The pretty copies are just so expensive!

I didn’t know there was a boxset (#7). I’ve seen that Little Women book all by itself in a shelf at The Last Bookstore (in LA). :O

Good to know! I love the covers. So pretty! I don’t often invest in pretty copies, though, because there are just so many books I haven’t read to buy as well!

GREAT list!! I really want to read Harry Potter and the Cursed Child!!⚡️ Oh my gosh, I love the Barnes and Noble collectible editions. I have quite a few, but it’s just not enough. I really want the Pride and Prejudice collectible edition! Haha, I won’t be satisfied until I have ALL of them😂! The prices are so good, too! Every time I am at the bookstore, I can’t help but stop by the collectible edition area and check the books out… There have been many times where my sister has had to practically drag me away from that area. Well, that area, and pretty much every other area that shelves books😂!

Bookstores are hard places to be when you can’t buy EVERYTHING you want! The prices on the Barnes & Noble editions are very good, I just always seem to talk myself out of it. Someday!

Great list!
I have Cursed Child but I’ve heard a lot people say it’s more like fanfiction so I’m a bit dubious about reading it!

I’m always a bit cautious with continuations of things, especially such popular things, but I do want to give it a go!

Same. I’m ignoring all the reviews until I’ve formed my own opinion. It is a script after all.

I like those Barnes and Noble collectible books too but they’re so big. I wish they were a little smaller. Do you remember the small classic books they used to sell? I wish I had bought all of them up 🙂

Barnes & Noble is, indeed, a dangerous place. I haven’t been able to bring myself to purchase those pretty editions yet, though.
